A Week in Our Shoes

Many of you want to know, what's the latest with our adoption? Where are you at in the adoption process?

Well, in the last week, we've been chock-full of the "adoption process." And that's so often the case. It's either "feast or famine"...you either have nothing going on or everything going on.

On October 29, we received an email from our adoption agency that our immigration forms expire in January and we need to begin now working on renewal paperwork. On November 6, we received confirmation that we need to do a home study update for those forms.

So this is where our week began:

Monday, November 9: beginning to fill out paperwork and setting up required appointments.
Wednesday, November 11: Jason gets fingerprinting done. Rachel takes Bonsai to the vet for required vaccinations. "You're making me do WHAT for this kid?"
Thursday, November 12: Rachel gets fingerprinting done.
Friday, November 13: After asking on the phone about our other pets vaccination status and hearing the others were good, we found out on Wednesday Zimonya had expired vaccinations. Back to the vet in 2 days! And Zimonya says, "I'll do anything for my new brother!"
Sunday, November 15: In the midst of all this, our washing machine broke. Took an afternoon to find a new one. Thankful for scratch and dent deals! Then Jason stayed up past midnight completing our home study update paperwork.
Monday, November 16: Now on to required medical check ups. For how little we go to the doctor, was impressed he remembered us. Granted, our last few appointments were for an Thailand adoption home study, tuberculosis test and medication to travel to Zimbabwe. I suppose that makes us memorable. Easy appointment. Only downfall, he was so interested in hearing about our adoption that he forgot to check that Jason doesn't have any contagious diseases! Ugh, que Monday to go BACK to the doctor to get that checked!
Monday, November 16: Adoption Home Study update meeting complete. LOVED getting to tell our social worker all about our son!!!
What's next? Well, getting an important check box marked on Jason's medical forms. Then, once we get the update, start filling out our immigration updates.

As you'd expect, all of these things are added on to our daily routines. Work, Bible studies, indoor soccer, you name it. BUT, I'm always amazed how God makes time for what's on His heart, and although this past week has been CRAZY, I am overwhelmed with joy looking at our little boy's face knowing each is a stepping stone to bringing him home!
