Giving Tuesday

It's amazing the amount of traditions that are found around the holidays. Black Friday, Cyber Monday, etc. I must admit, I LOVE traditions, so I was surprised that I'd never heard of "Giving Tuesday" up until a few days ago.

To learn more, I checked the trusty source of Wikipedia, and was soon spammed by them asking I give them money. Giving Tuesday is well known for it's hashtag #GivingTuesday, and it was a movement that only began in 2012 as a designated day of giving at the beginning of the Christmas season. It's a day that helps people realize that giving is better than receiving. A day for us to put others before ourselves.

This is a global celebration of a new tradition of generosity.

It’s a simple idea, and it's funny how we are so encouraged by culture, and forget that this is something God has called us to all along.

Phil 2:4 Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.

Luke 6:35 But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return, and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, for he is kind to the ungrateful and the evil.

John 15:12-14 “This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends. You are my friends if you do what I command you.

1 Thess 5:15 See that no one repays anyone evil for evil, but always seek to do good to one another and to everyone.

There is nothing wrong with being a part of this new tradition, it is something that shows the love of Christ. I would encourage you, and even myself, to not limit it to one day a year. Giving of our time, money and resources is too good of a thing to limit to #GivingTuesday

As I looked through the Giving Tuesday facebook page, I see many people donating to feed children, donating baby care kits, provide education for little girls often sold into the sex trade, food pantry donations to feed the hungry - my eyes swell up in tears wondering what our child may be experiencing right now, and their mother and father.

We are thankful for the path God has called us to, and we know that our adoption is not about what we can do, it's about what God can do. And God calls many other people to care for the orphans through our adoption by financial support.

We are praying that by the end of 2014 we'd reach at least 50% of our funding needs. That's ONLY $3,200! Our overall financial need left to raise is appropriately $18,000. If you'd like to give this Tuesday night to a cause that will take care of many of the causes listed above, would you considering support Jason and I as we adopt from Thailand? This isn't something we can do on our own! It's through the giving of others that we see God's plan unfold in our lives.

If you'd like to support us, please mail your check to Lifesong for Orphans, PO Box 40, Gridley, IL 61744. Please write on the memo line of your check "Stephens family/4717". 100% of these donations go towards our adoption!

If you'd prefer to give online, their is a small processing fee deducted; however, we understand this is an easier route to take. Please visit Lifesong for Orphans, select Give to an Adoptive Family, and complete the form with our name and account number 4717.

As always, thank you for the support many of you give us a regular basis - whether through prayer, encouragement, friendship, and financially. We are so thankful for each person God has placed in our lives!
